ESSAYS
This
page contains links to essays explaining my thinking about various topics. Many
of the topics are controversial, and I don’t expect that people with deeply
held views that oppose the ideas expressed here will be convinced by them (or by
anything else, for that matter). They are intended to lay out my thinking so
that I can simply refer people to these essays rather than writing them out
again and again each time a topic comes up. I have chosen this method of
expressing my views since I am not interested in getting into arguments and do
not like forums or social media, which inevitably devolve into such
unproductive conflicts. These essays will be updated from time to time as my
thinking evolves. They do not represent the views of any organization or
employer I am now or ever have been associated with. If you like them, great.
If you don’t, that’s your right, too. Go create your own website and see if you
can lay out a set of views as logically and empirically strong as these. I
don’t expect everyone who reads these essays to agree with them. As the great
American humourist Josh Billings famously observed, “As scarce as truth is, the
supply has always been in excess of the demand”.
